NMSAA March 2006 MID-WINTER Meeting Minutesby Kar Sheppard & Tara Thielman, Secretary/Treasurer 06 NMSAA Mid-Winter Meeting Shelby Administration Building March 13 , 2006 Members in attendance: Scott Reding (Browning), Kar Sheppard (East Glacier Park), Jim Gregg (President), Ray Wanty (Shelby), Jack Underwood (Cut Bank), Brian Barrows (Sunburst), Gail Hofstad (Valier), Johanna Myers (DeLaSalle), Matt Genger (Valier), PoorBoy Croff (Boarding Dorm), Dustin Gordon (Chester), Terry Whitcomb (Heart Butte) Tara Thielman was excused.
AGENDA
Meeting called to order at 9:07
I No one needed to update their information
II No corrections or additions to the agenda
III Jim read the minutes from the fall meeting, one correction was made, “Track weight class was tabled until the winter meeting (not spring)” Jack Underwood made a motion to accept the minutes with the correction, Brian Barrows seconded the motion. Motion carried.
IV Much discussion was had regarding the removal of the no zone rule for 7th grade. Jim asked for a motion to remove the no zone rule from the constitution, none was made.
Discussion was had regarding the removal of the 10 point rule for the 8th. The discussion was tabled so AD’s can talk to coaches about the no zone rule for 8th grade teams. We will bring it back up at the spring meeting.
Johanna Myers made a motion to add additional wording to the constitution. “A Zone defense infraction is separate from a 10 point press infraction, no technical foul is given until a second infraction of the same type is committed.” Scott Reding seconded the motion. Motion carried.
V. There was a discussion regarding the track weight divisions. Jack Underwood made a motion – “To dissolve the weight divisions and to adopt the grade divisions 7th and 8th. Underclassmen may move up a division but must stay at that level for the entire track meet.” Ray Wanty seconded. Motion carried.
VI. There was discussion regarding moving the volleyball season to the fall. Jack Underwood made a motion – “Move volleyball season to the fall” Brian Barrows seconded. Motion failed.
VII Dustin Gordon mentioned the need for common start times, everyone agreed to the following times: Monday – Friday 4:30, Saturday 10:00 (changes allowed with agreement of the playing teams) Everyone felt that this did not need to be a part of the constitution. Reminder of start times will be made prior to the scheduling meeting.
Dustin Gordon brought up that he thought everyone should contribute a little money to Jim Gregg for maintaining the web site. Jim said that as long as he was in the job that he’s in, he didn’t need anything.
VIII All constitutional wording changes were handled previously.
IX Scheduling was done for the final four Girls’ Volleyball tournament.
X All rosters have been updated.
Kar Sheppard asked if boys are allowed to play volleyball, everyone agree to NO.
Wrestling update – Valier will be hosting divisional
It was mentioned that they would like to add two weight classes on the upper end just before heavy weight. It will be brought up at the spring meeting on April 24, 2006 at the Shelby Administration Bldg.
Track schedule was reviewed 4/1 Cut Bank 4/8 Shelby 4/11 4/18 4/25 5/2 5/9 Cut Bank will host mini-meets 4/22 Conrad 4/28 Chester – but only if not going to Cut Bank 4/29 Cut Bank 5/6 Cut Bank 5/13 Cut Bank
