NMSAA October 2006 Fall Meeting Minutesby Tara Thielman, Secretary/Treasurer NMSAA Fall Meeting Shelby Administration Building Monday, October 23, 2006 9:00 AM Meeting opened
Sunburst & De La Salle are not present. Previous arrangements have been made by both schools. De La Salle entered late.
Introductions took place.
Additions to the agenda-quarter rule.
Administrators’ passes are available.
Minutes read, motioned, and passed unanimously.
Discussion of wrestling weights. Conrad said that Super Heavy Weight was a good idea and would like to see the SHW begin at 175 or 180. Browning felt that a SHW class at 175 or 180 could be handing a kid the championship because of low numbers in that class. If it’s something that they really want to change, then they need to give us more information on how many kids will be involved in those upper weight classes to make the decision. Motion to keep the weight classes the same as in our constitution Seconded and passed unanimously.
Discussion of adding mini javelins to our track program. They are about 2 feet long and plastic. Rational is to begin teaching javelin at a younger age and safer than disk and shot. It costs about $25.00. Valier felt that it needs to be under the supervision of a coach who knows proper technique. Cut Bank feels that we need to table the discussion until we can go back and speak to our coaches and ADs. EG motioned and was seconded to table this discussion and bring more information back from our coaches. Passed unanimously.
Discussion of supervision during and after games. We all said our schools have supervision during the games inside the venues. BMS suggested that security should be escorting the opposing team to their bus after the events. Our schools need to take the initiative to make sure these things don’t happen. They need to be visible to stop negative actions from taking place.
GBB seeding. We all need to get Jim game record information throughout the season to keep the web site updated. Heart Butte asked to be allowed to enter the tournament as a 10th seed. Steve W. said that the previous HB administration that caused all the problems is no longer there. Jim Greg said that HB has been doing a good job now and is abiding by the NMSAA rules. Jim also said that HB can ask to be put on a future agenda to ask to be reinstated. VAL doesn’t feel that there will be no punishment for not following NMSAA if HB is allowed back in to the association now. Browning concurred. Lack of motion, so brackets are accepted as is. GBB tournament times were finalized.
Clarification of quarter rules. Make sure that kids play only 5 quarters not 6. Valier felt that coaches need to be aware of the number of quarters each kid plays. Constitution clarification took place.
Valier-Can we switch the January meeting? There is a MHSA meeting on the same day. It was decided that our schools need to make sure that records are sent to Jim throughout the season and send a representative if they can’t attend. The date will not be changed.
Motioned and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 10:10. |
